ECLIPSE DAY!  Be sure to protect your eyes from the sun everyday, and not just during an eclipse.  I hope it was an enjoyable experience for you.  For me, I really thought it would have been a little darker than it was.

1st, 2nd and 3rd periods reviewed eclipse safety and we played a few games on food chains.  6th and 7th periods were introduced to symbiosis and made a chart to place in their notebooks.

Our first test is FRIDAY, 8/15.

Tuesday, August 15, 2017

Today, students learned about food chains, food webs and the difference between the two.  Also, students began to make a food chain with paper and glue.  We will continue tomorrow on food chains!

---------------

Announcements-  OPEN HOUSE is Thursday night, 8/17 at 7pm.  Please make every effort to attend!  Paperwork is coming home tonight about the eclipse.  Please review the papers, sign and return!   Thanks!

Monday, August 14, 2017

I was out today!  Students with Ms. Lilly worked on the CHARACTERISTICS of LIVING THINGS with 1st, 2nd and 3rd periods.  6th and 7th periods were allowed to catch up on work that was not completed.

Friday, August 11, 2017 --  We made it through the day without rain, as far as I know.  The students were able to take part in our Fresh Air Friday program in trade for two of their Cardinal Cash slips.  There was a huge group enjoying this hot and sunny day.

1-Same EQ as Thursday!  Students worked individually on the three different cycles of matter.  Work may not have been finished, and it has been left in the student science notebook.

Thursday, August 10, 2017 -- Another great day!

1-Essential Question - "How does energy flow through and ecosystem?"

2-Student groups with cards on paper that were organized on whiteboard into herbivore, carnivore, omnivore, scavenger, decomposer or producer.

3-Notes about the topic.

4-Activity near the end of class to see if we knew which animals from a large group were carnivores, omnivores or herbivores!
-----------------------------------------------------

Wednesday, August 9, 2017  - Great Day at Smitha Middle School!

1-Began use of science interactive notebooks.

2-Essential Question for the day- "How is our environment organized the way it is and why?"

3-Students added a half sheet graphic organizer to their interactive notebooks and took a few notes on key ideas.

4-Short video clip about what the notes were about... and...

5-Time to work on trifold brochures from Tuesday!

Tuesday, August 8, 2017 - In class, students worked individually on a trifold brochure that may be used on a future test on our topic of study.  It is located in their science folder in class.  They will have more time to work on it throughout the next few weeks.

Week 2--- August 7, 2017 Monday  -- Here we go with life science every day!  Today, students should have a notebook (preferably a $0.15 folder with pockets and prongs).  We will organize them today.  The plan was to take a pretest today, but some students were unable to log in and others were unable to use the computer lab.  For the most part, all students except 1st period took the pretest.  Tomorrow, students will take the triple beam balance test and begin working on the interaction of living things.
